Inside a Trunk

Beneath my old Caribbean home, there is a storage room filled with antiques, old boxes and trunks, bed frames and bicycles. Inside one the trunks, I found a collection of old letters, post cards and and police reports. The trunk belonged to a police inspector from the early 1900's, just after the United States took posession of the islands. He was one of the first on the island and inside this trunk, were his personal letters from family and friends. He hds a folder from work containing reports written about events in Christiansted. The writing created a window into how things must of been at the time. The man's name was Egheart Thomas.
